Human interaction is part of everyday life through which we learn to communicate and develop
essential interpersonal skills. Human interaction falls under the genre of social etiquette, in
Arabic is known as ‘Adab al’Mu’asharah’, a significant major branch in Islām. Islām outlines the principles of social interaction and elucidates the disruptors of social harmony
and how to avoid them. This free webinar explores the Islamic framework of building a
healthy society outlined in Surah Hujurat. Surah Hujurat was revealed in Madina whichestablished the roots of an ideal Islamic society. In this Surah, Allāh Almighty draws the
believer’s attention to the underlying causes of societal breakdown and how one can
revive a healthy society by embodying specific Islamic values and avoiding its disruptors.
The uniqueness of this Surah is that its fundamental principles apply to any context;
family, work, friends, Islamic gatherings etc.

Workshop Format

The workshop will be delivered online through a whiteboard with interactive real-life case
studies and related exercises to allow the audience to engage with the topic of discussion. It
aims to decipher Islamic principles from Surah Hujurat and their application to a modern
context. If time permits, there will be a Q&A session at the end and some exercise questions
for everyone to ponder over.

Lecturer: Mufti Abdul Waheed

About the Lecturer

Mufti Abdul Waheed currently serves as a full-time researcher at JKN Fatawa Department over a decade to date. All of his research fatawas and articles are approved and published on
the JKN Fatawa website under the attestation of Shaykh Mufti Saiful Islam. Many of the fatawas Mufti Abdul Waheed has answered in the past until now include divorce, marriage,
dietary laws, finance and personal worship. As part of the JKN Fatawa Department project, he also provides Islamic counselling to support married couples struggling with their marriage relationship. He has delivered workshops related to marriage and contemporary fiqh issues for many years locally and nationally. He also lectures at JKN institute in Bradford in
Islamic sciences such as, Tafsir (Jalalain), Fiqh (Hidayah), Usool-ul-fiqh (Usool Shashi), Aqeedah (Aqeedah tahawiyyah), Arabic syntax and Islamic research (Buhooth alIslamiyyah). He also lectures in the Takhassus fil fiqh course, a three-year part-time course which specialises in training students in Ifta at JKN institute and Al-Balagh Academy.
His primary interest lies in minority fiqh related issues and pedagogical development in Ifta training. He has Alhamdulillah completed two detailed dissertations. First one he completed
in June 2020 focussing on Minority fiqh and shariah councils and recently completed a dissertation on empirical research in British Ifta training program submitted as an MA thesis
at Warwick University with a distinction.
